Science Extra Credit opportunities:
*All opportunities are available to students who have been putting in effort to raise their grade by turning in all assignments on time and staying on-task in class. Check with Ms. Sage to see if you are able to earn extra credit.
1) Visit a science fair, science museum, or other science related event. Bring in proof that you were there. (a brochure/pamphlet from the site, signed by an official there; parent signature and note from home; etc.) – 25 points
a. If you find a cool experiment/gallery, you can make a presentation to the class for up to an extra 50 points. Presentation should include what you saw, any extra research you did, and visual aids. See Ms. Sage to schedule the date of the presentation.
2) Do a research report or presentation on an important scientist (See example list below). What was their contribution to the scientific community? Give scientific facts/details about their most important work. How did affect the society at the time? How is it still important and have an impact today? Where do we see the scientist’s work? Give as many important/interesting facts as you can find! - up to 100 points
a. Albert Einstein f. Marie Curie
b. Sir Isaac Newton g. Charles Darwin
c. Alexander Graham Bell h. Sigmund Freud
d. Thomas Edison i. Stephen Hawking
e. Leonardo Da Vinci j. Jean Piaget
Make sure your work is original and in your own words. Please give a citation list, so I can check where the information came from.
Try not to use Wikipedia. While it's a great source to get some quick information, it does not always have proven facts and often includes people's opinions.
*Be advised that this is just a sample of scientists who helped shape what we know about our world. Please feel free to research any scientist you want. Check with Ms. Sage prior to beginning, to make sure we have little overlap.
See Ms. Sage to schedule the date, if you choose to do a presentation.
